This Privacy Policy describes how the SASSA Check status tool processes information and identifies the limits of what we have verified.

🔒 Our Commitment to Your Privacy

When you click Check Status, your ID number and mobile number are sent over HTTPS to our Google Cloud-hosted service in Johannesburg. Our service forwards those two details to the official SASSA status service over HTTPS and returns the result to your browser. Your IP address is also processed by our service for abuse prevention. The current checker does not use status.mysrd.org.za as an intermediary.

The checker does not save submitted ID numbers, phone numbers or status results in its application database, browser storage or application error logs. For rate limiting, it stores keyed hashes derived from the ID number and IP address, with request counts and expiry timestamps. Counters stop applying ten minutes after their last update; this is not a promise that database records are physically deleted at that time. Hosting providers may retain request metadata separately, and SASSA applies its own data-handling practices. We have not independently verified those providers’ retention periods.

✅ What We Do — and Don’t Do

We Do:

  • Provide educational guidance and tools related to SASSA SRD R370 grants.
  • Operate independently of SASSA or any government body.
  • Explain the information processed by the status checker.
  • Show adverts supplied by Google AdSense.

We Don’t:

  • Explicitly save submitted ID numbers or phone numbers in the checker code.
  • Process or submit applications to SASSA.
  • Collect banking details through the status-check form.

⚖️ Compliance with POPIA and South African Law

The following describes the checker’s data handling:

  • Transparency: We explain clearly how and why your data may be used.
  • Input: You enter your ID and phone number; your IP address is also processed automatically.
  • Minimal Use: We only process information necessary to operate our tools.
  • Security: Data transmissions are encrypted and tools are accessed via secure HTTPS.

🍪 Cookies and Tracking

We use minimal cookies to maintain website functionality and track anonymous usage trends. Specifically:

  • Essential Cookies: Required to operate the website efficiently.
  • Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how users interact with content (e.g., via Google Analytics — with anonymized data).
  • Advertising Cookies: Google AdSense may set cookies on your device to decide which adverts you see. You can switch off personalised adverts in your Google account settings. We never sell your personal information to anyone.

We do not use:

  • Personally identifiable tracking mechanisms

The status checker uses HTTPS for its requests. This does not establish how hosting providers or the upstream service retain information.

We do not process payments or submit grant applications. Your ID and mobile number pass through our HTTPS service to SASSA for the requested lookup. Personal status responses use no-store headers and are excluded from our page cache.
